Green Mountain Youth Orchestra (GMYO) and Green Mountain Music Camp (GMMC) were established to provide a variety of musical experiences to music students and enthusiasts of all levels and abilities in Bennington and the VT/MA/NY tri-state area.

About the Orchestra Director: Jay Sager
Jay is a devoted percussionist, educator, and composer from the Green Mountains of Bennington, Vermont. In addition to directing GMYO, Jay teaches music at Mt. Anthony Union Middle School. He appears regularly as a percussionist with the Berkshire Symphony and the Williams College Percussion Ensemble (WiPE)In 2013, Jay appeared as a percussion fellow at the Bang on a Can Summer Festival. He also enjoys running and eating lots of fruits and vegetables.



About the Junior String Director: Mary Migliozzi-Chambers

Mary has a Masters in Music Education from the College of Saint Rose, Albany, NY, where she majored in voice. She received a BS in Music Therapy from Sam Houston State University, Huntsville, TX, where she earned scholarships for voice and violin. She holds a State of New York Teacher Certification and a State of Vermont teacher certification, Music K-12. She taught in private and public schools in upstate New York for more than 13 years. She currently is the vocal, instrumental, and general music teacher at Bennington Elementary school. Mary is also a singer/songwriter, often accompanying herself on guitar and piano.



About the Founder: Ellen Sager
Ellen is a graduate of the Crane School of Music, where she earned her Bachelor of Music degree. Since the mid-1980s. Ellen is musically diverse—from teacher in the schools, to private violin instructor, to orchestra and camp founder, to conductor of several regional orchestras. 

In addition to her work as music educator and orchestra director, Ellen has been a violinist with the Vermont Symphony, served eight years as concertmistress of the Sage City Symphony, and is a current member of the Dorset Trio, which performs at private events throughout the southern Vermont region. She is the founder and former director of both the GMYO, GMMC, and has served as conductor of the Senior Orchestra and Honors Strings ensembles for the Lakes Region Youth Orchestra. In 2005, Ellen launched a yearly festival concert in which the Green Mountain Youth Orchestra and Lakes Region Youth Orchestra come together to perform for local school groups and a public performance. Ellen currently runs the Harvest Barn Inn with her husband Rich.
